And So It Begins...

I spent my Saturday in the Library and Archives over at St.Croix Landmarks Society, the library here has extensive church records including baptism, marriage and death certificates dating as far back as the early 1700s when the Danes took over the island of St.Croix. With Ronnie's guidance I was able to finally get started, so far we're on the right track. I decided to start with Mary Ann Pickett who was my paternal great grandmother, no one knew when she was born and knew very little of her besides the fact that she was Pops' mother. I was able to uncover her baptism records and that of her sisters! No one ever knew she had sisters! And know one knew who her parents were, but now with the baptism records we have a little more knowledge. For my first day of research it was an awesome find. I printed copies of the docs and shared them with family...and so now the journey continues!

The First Step

Greetings to all. This is my first post on this all new blog that I created in an effort to follow my new journey into the world of geneaology. For years I've always wondered about my ancestors and who they were, what were their struggles and strengths, their hopes and dreams. I always said one day I would go in search of the truth and try to learn about the people I know nothing of, whose names are never mentioned, but I kept putting it off and pushing it in the back of my mind as one of things to do when I have time.

But with new developments and the recent unveiling of the St.Croix Population Database 1734-1917 and ancestry.com/virginislands, I am well on my way to being a step closer to finding the ones who went before me. Join me and stay tuned, there's no telling where this will take me...but the ride should be fun!
